The mining tournament will occur on a similar schedule to the fishing tournament. On the day of the tournament, a new mineshaft will open up, only staying open for the duration of the tournament.
Inside tournament mines, the mechanics will change a lot.
- A timer will begin counting upwards.
- Instead of nuggets, 50 time fragments will be scattered around the mine instead. Upon collecting a time fragment, the timer will be frozen for 1 second.
- Enemies will still be present, along with a new enemy (we’ll get to that later), and killing an enemy will freeze the timer for 2 seconds.
- Flowing ore will be generated in place of regular ore, and when broken, the timer will be frozen for 3 seconds. It breaks at the same speed as topaz ore.
With these mechanics in place, your goal would be to reach the exit of the mine with the lowest time possible, the lower your time, the higher your place on the leaderboard.
A new enemy will be present inside tournament mines - the Lightning Goblin. These goblins wear robes and phase through blocks like bats. Over the span of 9 seconds, the goblin will float around the edge of the screen, and dash past the player 3 times. They only take one hit to kill, but if the player is unable to kill the goblin after the 3 times it dashes past them, the goblin will press a stopwatch, freezing the player for 5 seconds while time continues to pass, and then disappearing. They won’t deal any damage, they’ll just freeze the player. Only one of these spawns inside each tournament mine, but you’re guaranteed to be attacked by it before you reach the exit.
Similar to the fishing tournament, there will be 3 cups available. The difficulty variance could potentially include more enemies, with fewer fragments and ore present, meaning that the timer won’t be as easy to freeze, or the mine could be larger, with more enemies.
There’s also a slight catch. Each tournament mine can only be attempted with a crappy pickaxe, making the tournament fairer.
