                                 FARMING UPDATE

Preface

It is not a secret that the so-called farming update has been planned to be added into Pixel Worlds ever since its creation. Simple sprites and concepts can be seen in the early stages of the game. Besides, various suggestions from the player base came to be during the past few years. And yet, no clear image on the mentioned update nor the update itself came to be. A lot of other features which would likely even be considered as the key features of the game by many nowadays were developed and given higher attention by the development team and so the players. For some reason, players tend to have some misconception about suggestions being useless and waste of time, in other words, they say that they are not read/seen/implemented or given attention by the mentioned developers in one way or another. It’s false as any active member of the community which keeps an eye on its development and specifically the suggestions and content of the game could tell that it’s strongly influenced by the player base and player-made suggestions. It isn’t just limited to the game itself either and goes beyond, to be exact, this applies to all of the official Pixel Worlds-related social media platforms. There are various factors to prove so. Empirical experience comes at the hand as well but these aren’t the main subjects here. Regardless of everything said so far, I do have a lot of ideas, suggestions, concepts and thoughts on this video game as I have spent plenty of my time on it and the surrounding community by-far (Both, inside and outside of the game). I wouldn’t ever claim to like farming as of what this term usually refers to in the context of Pixel Worlds — the mindless breaking of the same set of blocks within a single world and same, looped pattern. That is one of the proclaimed ways to obtain gems in-game and what has started everything but since I had enough of it back in the beta days, and it probably applies to the majority of people as the number of alternative methods of obtaining gems available drastically changed per se. What about the most common definition of farming and agriculture in general? The mentioned fields are old, complex and quite needed. Usually represented as relaxing, peaceful and even meditating activity as an alternative to fast action-based activities in video games. I’m not a fan of the genre, but it always seemed to fit into sandbox and MMO RPGs, Pixel Worlds falls under both categories. I have also gotten a fresh concept based off of pets & other features recently added into the game. Also worth to mention that I moderate #pw-suggestions channel inside the official Pixel Worlds Game Discord server daily and that this has also partly affected me by bringing a will to make this and some other potential suggestions publicly and bring them into reality. Hopefully, this will turn out well.

Farming NPCs
Mazz the Old Farmer

Meet Mazz, the experienced farmer in age. He’ll explain to you how the farming feature works and serve as notable guide introducing it to you. Could be encountered in a new section of PIXELSTATION along with other farming-related NPCs. With this said, Mazz was waiting for new farmers to take up his legacy for quite a while.

Jackie the Vet

JackieTheVet
Greet Jackie, the local veterinarian! She’s keeping an eye on the condition of all animals in Pixel Worlds, as well as providing farm animals breeding service at her veterinary clinic. Take your max level female and male animals of the same specie and breed, and she’ll do a safe and successful service, no fees required. As an addition, the newborn will take the best of their parents and will have an upgraded breed! Quite handy for any farmers that pay attention to their farm animals.

Onionhead the Crop Master

Don’t run away from Onionhead, the friendly crop master. They got plenty of crop seeds, as well as crop field & tree boxes for sale! You can also purchase scarecrows to keep your growing plants in safety from birds. All in all, this friendly merchant is an essential place to stop by for any farmer. Whenever you’re a beginner or veteran at this activity, you’ll get to meet up with this famous crop master a lot. Nobody has as many products to offer as this little fellow in Pixel Worlds!

In-game shop category

A new in-game shop category! You’ll be able to purchase eight different tradeable farm animal name tags which later can transform into a farm animal’s house containing them inside of it (An analogue to pets Tamagotchi & pet houses). As well as a water bottle for both: farm animals & crops, and farm animals medicine to keep them in good condition and cure any sickness coming by. There’s also a Farm Order Bot which will give you farming orders which you can place inside of your farm world. Orders are requests for crops and products that you will be able to grow and make with the help of farming animals and crops. The Farm Order Bot will later deliver them in exchange for gems, experience points and other rewards. That’s an essential tool for any farmer. You’ll definitely have to take a look here if you’re planning on becoming a successful farmer in Pixel Worlds!

Crop UI

CropBoxWheat CropBoxPumpkin
By placing either a crop field box or crop tree pot, depending on the crop’s type, you’ll be able to consume the crop seeds package on it which will be the beginning of its growing process. Crop UI has four main buttons & a few indicators to keep an eye on — Watering; Fertilizing; Scarecrow; Crop Status; Water bar; Harvest bar; Etc. There are also info & help buttons that will include the information and guide on how to take care of your crops.

Watering — To make sure that growth of your plant/tree is stable, you’ll have to regularly water it by consuming the water bottle which is available for purchase from the new section of the in-game store. You can see the water bar on the left side of the crop UI.

Fertilizing — Non-mandatory and yet highly recommended procedure. By using fertilizers on your crops, you’ll put a special fertilizer status on them that guarantees a higher amount of crop products to be gathered once harvested. A special icon appears at the “Crop Status” menu once fertilized.

                                   Scarecrow

Must-have if you want to keep your growing crops safe from birds. Every one in a while your crops will be under birds attack, an exclamation mark will appear near to the scarecrow menu, and you’ll be able to see them wandering around once opened. To prevent them from eating your crops up, you’ll have to buy scarecrow from Crop Vendor and place it nearby to your crops (Works in 4x4 blocks area). A shield indicator will display once the scarecrow is active, as well as the timer will start, and the image in the menu is going to change. Renew it each 12 hours via scarecrow menu or place a new one.

                               Crop Status

You can look at your crop growth progress, as well as check whenever fertilizer got used on it or not in this menu. It also allows trash crop at any moment if that is what you would like to do by any chance and the only option left if your crop has rotten down. Harvest bar is up to your sight here too, make sure to harvest your plant/tree as soon as it is ready to by clicking on the corresponding button. A status bar will display status messages according to the current state of your crop. If you get to the harvesting deadline that is ten hours, your plant/tree will rot down, and you will be left with only the option to trash it. Once harvested, the crop will disappear, and a certain amount of correlating crop products is going to appear in the player’s inventory. Feel free to repeat the process by planting another package of the crop seeds in a field box/tree pot.

Crop Products

The end goal and the reason behind one even growing all these crops. Once the plant or tree is harvested, it’ll grant a random amount of products at a specific range determined by its kind. Products can later be used as food for farm animals (except for a few) or used to fulfil the farm orders. That makes them genuinely universal goods allowing you to get gems via an orders system or feed the farm animals which will later result in even more rewards to be earnt through orders or to create unique items with the use of the farm animals’ products. All in all, these twenty products are something that you’d like to have and keep in your inventory if you consider yourself as a farm keeper!

List of products: Wheat; Corn; Sunflower Oil; Carrot; Potato; Pumpkin; Cane Sugar; Chilli Pepper; Tomato; Cucumber; Beetroot; Garlic; Apple; Cherry; Lemon; Peach; Banana; Grapes; Olive Oil; Pineapple.

Farm Animals

After buying & using one of the farm animals’ name tags, you’ll obtain a corresponding farm animal house containing it. There are eight farm animals available: Goat, Duck, Pig, Bee, Rabbit, Cow, Chicken and Sheep. Each provides a product exclusive to them and has its food preferences (e.g. Goat produces the goat milk & its favourite food is wheat).

Similarly to pets, you’ll have to take care of farm animals by feeding them with harvested crops, giving them water, cleaning them, as well as providing medicine if they get ill. By doing so, they’ll successfully produce farm products and increase their level within the time. It won’t end just there, max levelled (10) female and male farm animals matching requirements can give birth to a farm animal of the next (higher) breed at Jakie’s veterinary clinic — each has their product type. Meanwhile, you can use products to fulfil farming orders and create unique items with the use of looming & sewing machines.

Farm Animals UI

By placing an obtained farm animal house in your world, you’ll allow farm animal to roam around it, as well as unlocking the tools for taking care of it. Farm Animal UI consists of five main buttons & a few indicators for an owner to keep an eye on — Medicine; Water; Food; Shower; Production; Water bar; Health bar; Etc. There are also info & help buttons that will include the information and guide on how to take care of your crops.

Medicine — You’ll have to cure your farm animal whenever it gets ill by consuming a farm animal medicine which is available for purchase from the new in-game store section.

Water — Farm animals are alive and require a lot of water to keep living in your local farm, you’ll have to regularly provide it by consuming the water bottle which is available for purchase from the new section of the in-game store. You can see the water bar on the left side of the farm animal UI.

Food — This is one of the sources of energy for the farm animals you can feed them by consuming one of the eatable harvested crops (favourite food is more effective). You can see the food bar under the corresponding button.

Shower — The farm animals also require good cleaning to follow hygiene and keep them healthy, you can do so by clicking on the following button until it’s going to be full. You can see the shower bar under the corresponding button.

                                    Production

You can start production whenever your farm animal gets full, meaning that all of its stats are at the top. Once it gets full, you can click on the following button and click start, doing so will begin the production. Production time depends on the species, level and breed of the farm animal. Once the farm animal’s level increases the amount of provided product significantly, but the same happens to the production time.

By finishing production, the owner is going to receive a random amount of products determined by the mentioned level, but farm animal’s attributes will drastically drop in return meaning that they’ll need extra care and time before next production.

You can see the product(s) that are currently under production under the farm animal’s tab, as well as the remaining production time bar under the image of the farm animal in the process.

Breeding

There are three breeds of each farm animal you can get the other two by breeding male & female farm animals meeting the requirements at Jackie’s veterinary clinic in PIXELSTATION. Put them in corresponding slots & click on the breed button, doing so will result in them giving birth to an animal of the next (higher) breed, an exception would be the last third breed that will give birth to an animal of the breed same to them.

Requirements — one max levelled (10) male & female farm animal of the same species and breed.

  • Species Breed #1 | Breed #2 | Breed #3

Orders

You can take up to three orders at the time from the Farm Order Bot. By clicking on one of the papers, you’ll see order, order location and payout. There are two options available — finishing or cancelling the order. By first, a player receives the payout, and the requested products will disappear from the player’s inventory, by second the time penalty of four hours will be given not allowing the player to take a new one.

Requested products & payout are primarily random, that causes some being much easier or harder than the other depending on your progress with farming. The payout might either focus on the XP or Gems, allowing you to pick the one you find more rewarding & needed for yourself (Minimum payout of order settled by the type of ordered products but later adjusted randomly).

Loom & Sewing Machines

SingerSewingMachine
AntiqueLoomMachine
These two machines allow creating new items with the use of duck feathers, wool & rabbit hide. The last two can convert into new materials: fur & fabric fur. Both machines are obtainable through crossbreeding and are tier 10 props.

The loom machine will come in use to create advanced materials, as well as allowing to create simple wool clothes set on it. Meanwhile, the sewing machine allows creating the seven main sets with the use of the mentioned materials. You’ll be able to produce thirty-six new items in total, resulting in eight unique outfits. Overall, they will serve as wanted craft stations that you’ll likely want to use once you progress far enough in farming.

Loom UI

Once used, the loom machine will display items’ recipes that you could craft, starting from six advanced materials made out of different types of rabbit hides & wool and finishing with wearables. Whenever a player is going to have the required amount of materials to craft an item — the craft button will turn into a green colour, and they will be able to click on it.

Sewing UI

The sewing machine is working identically to the loom machine with the only difference of offering wearables only, a high variety of items up to anyone’s preferences and liking.

The End

Thanks for reading. That’s pretty much the whole farming suggestion that I had to share, a few things were scrapped and not-implemented in the process, and possibly a direct connection with another feature idea is planned out. Either way, that’s all for now. Feel free to share your feedback about this suggestion. I’ll also appreciate any support.

It was brought to you by:

Very small amount of community is farming since they are better and more pofitable ways. It would be good option to add farming uodate, especially farming NPCs. *Bump

I cannot physically express how much I want this in the game. I will become the greatest farmer in the history of PW.

Also, gotta love that derpy @Sieggy with the ducks : D

it seems good but it'll probably be like the pet update where people take care of them then never use it ever again hell a lot of pets are dead since no one takes care of them anymore but the huge amount of gems it gives seems like it wont be dead

that’s my favorite part too, haha.

I can really see how the developers could get inspiration from similar games on the crop idea. It would bring something new to the game that was my favourite part of the other games I used to play.

Well thought out suggestions? Good.
Well thought out suggestions with concept art? Very nice!
But, well thought out suggestions with several pieces of concept art, “fake” screenshots, mechanics, items, NPCs, blocks, all organized into a very detailed thread? EPIC

This thread alone is great and well made, and the update itself sounds amazing.

Yea, why not! Seems like a good idea!
